Melissa Battah, VT State Representative, Washington-Orange

I am running for the Vermont State Representative for Washington-Orange district because I want to give back to this community which has become home by bringing a fresh perspective and mother's insight to the issues which matter most in our community. I know my decades of experience in nonprofit management will help me make informed decisions about the future of towns. My years of working as a community organizer will give me the experience needed to listen to the needs of our community before making decisions. I am running to create opportunities for our people, community and businesses to grow, live and thrive.

When my husband and I decided to buy a house, we spent months driving through neighborhoods in Washington county. We knew we wanted land and access to nature. We also wanted a good school system for our kids to grow in and a safe neighborhood to live in. We found all that and much more in Barre Town. We fell in love with the area instantly knowing this is where we wanted to put down roots and raise our family. We are committed to this community and want to see our children and their children grow up here.

What makes our district so amazing are all the community members who give richly of their time and talents to allow Barre Town, Graniteville, Websterville and Williamstown to grow and thrive. I firmly believe part of living in a community is actively participating in it. Because of this conviction, I’ve served on the board of the Good Samaritan Haven for 5 years, currently as board chair. I volunteered on a monthly basis with my daughter's ECO (Educating Children Outdoors) class and am a founding member of the Vermont Ethnic and Social Equity Coalition. This past fall, I coached my son's soccer team through the BYSA program. I have also both worked for and volunteered with the Greater Barre Community Justice Center. And I am currently serving on the BUUSD Curriculum Committee as the Barre Town representative.

I can’t do this without your support and without your vote. To ensure we continue to have neighborhoods which attract more families with young children like us to settle in Barre Town as well as balance the concerns of our neighbors who have retired, we need representatives who listen well and have values which reflect the community that lives here...people in WAS-ORA district deserve a future that works for ALL Vermonters. And I am the best candidate to continue to lead us along this path into the future.

Join me in voting Melissa Battah for WAS-ORA State Representative!

A place to thrive

Quality education, a wide range of activities which bring the community together and safe neighborhoods, are just a few examples of what makes the WAS-ORA district a desirable place to put down roots and grow. I commit to listening to the needs of our community and build on the foundations which have been laid.

A place to grow

Whether you own a shop, work from home or are an employee of one of the dozens of businesses in Barre Town, Graniteville, Websterville or Williamstown, making our district a desirable place to take a risk helps us grow so our communities can thrive. I commit to ensuring that future generations have the skills to become engaged entrepreneurs in our community.

A place to live

From granite quarries, to hiking and biking trails, to sledding hills to playgrounds to VAST, the WAS-ORA district provides a myriad of outdoor opportunities to connect us to nature.  I commit to bringing fresh ideas for future generations while preserving the beauty which has been entrusted to us to pass along to them.
